Going Back to Basics: The Quiet Joy of Living More Naturally

Going Back to Basics: The Quiet Joy of Living More Naturally

Why more people are rediscovering a simpler way of living

Something interesting is happening right now.

People are getting tired of the noise.

The constant notifications. The endless marketing. The complicated products. The feeling that everything in life has become just a little too artificial.

For many of us, there’s a quiet desire building beneath the surface:

A desire to slow down.
To simplify.
To live closer to nature again.

Not in a dramatic, off-grid, abandon-modern-life kind of way — but in small, meaningful ways that bring life back into balance.

And for many people, that journey begins with the simple act of going back to basics.

The beauty of simplicity

For most of human history, life was much simpler.

People grew food.
They made things by hand.
They relied on natural materials and ingredients.

There wasn’t a different chemical solution for every tiny inconvenience. Instead, people relied on traditional knowledge and ingredients that had been used for generations.

Ironically, many of the things that once seemed ordinary are now considered luxuries.

Cooking from scratch.
Gardening.
Making handmade products.
Using natural ingredients.

These things reconnect us to something deeper — a slower, more grounded way of living.

Rethinking what we put on our bodies

One of the first areas many people start rethinking is skincare.

When you begin paying attention to ingredients, it can be surprising how complicated many products have become. Long lists of synthetic chemicals, stabilizers, fragrances, and preservatives are often the norm.

Yet our skin is incredibly intelligent. It recognizes and responds well to simple ingredients — oils, fats, herbs, and botanicals.

That realization is part of what inspired me to start creating my own products.

Instead of complicated formulations filled with unnecessary additives, I wanted to create skincare that focused on simple, nourishing ingredients.

For example, my Tallow Balm is built around traditional fats and oils that closely resemble the natural oils our skin already produces. The result is a deeply moisturizing balm that supports the skin barrier without overwhelming it with unnecessary ingredients.

Honoring traditional wisdom

Another beautiful part of returning to simpler living is rediscovering traditional plant ingredients that have been used for centuries.

Plants have always played an important role in natural wellness traditions. Long before modern beauty counters existed, people relied on herbs and botanical infusions to support their bodies.

One of those traditional plants is wild yam, which has long been associated with women's wellness.

When I began creating my Wild Yam Cream, I wanted to honor that tradition by infusing oils with wild yam root and pairing them with nourishing ingredients that support the skin in a gentle, natural way.

It’s one small example of how traditional ingredients can still have a meaningful place in modern life.

Small choices that change everything

Returning to a more natural lifestyle doesn’t have to happen overnight.

In fact, it rarely does.

It often begins with small shifts:

Choosing simpler foods.
Growing a few herbs on the windowsill.
Reading ingredient labels more carefully.
Choosing handmade products when possible.

Each small decision brings us one step closer to a life that feels more intentional and aligned.

And over time, those choices begin to add up.

Living more intentionally

For many people, the return to simpler living isn’t about rejecting modern life.

It’s about finding balance.

It’s about remembering that the most meaningful parts of life are often the simplest ones:

A quiet morning.
Homemade food.
Natural ingredients.
Making something with your own hands.

These things ground us in a way that the modern world sometimes forgets.

And perhaps that’s why so many people are rediscovering the beauty of living closer to the basics.
